America is a continent or a country?
1) Even granting that everyone else is an "American", that does not mean we are not, nor that we should be hesitant to call ourselves "Americans". Granted, more specificity is needed if you are being specifically asked about your citizenship. In that case, none of those others can call themselves "American" either.
2) I've travelled to quite a few different countries as a merchant marine officer, and one of the first questions you are asked anywhere --either officially or socially-- is where you are from. I have always tried to be 'correct' and responded that I am from the United States. This response is almost invariably --ALMOST INVARIABLY!-- met with the reply, "Oh, you are American!"
because your question is lack in substance...If one would
say "America" alone..what kind? united states? north? south?
you need to be precise and complete because America alone
can be associated with either a country or continent...you can
only identify it if you add predicate to your subject.
>> gets?..hope helps..winks
the UNITED STATES of America is a country
America is a country but the Americas are continents, split north and south.
